Health and health care of school children and youth in Macedonia, 201 4

Activity for health care of school children and youth are realized in 40 stations, which are all in the city.

In this area work 76 doctors and 123 health workers with higher and secondary education. It is not yet reach a satisfactory level of assistance to doctors of this group of the population and on average, there is 1 doctor of 4220 children aged 7-19 years for the Republic.

Unsatisfactory is the ratio of physicians and health care workers with higher and secondary education, which is 1: 1.5

The total volume of preventive health services and activities performed in 2014 recorded an increase of 13.7 index points compared to 2013.

Morbidity registered in the field of health care for school children and youth 2014

In  activity for health care of school children and youth in 2013 are registered a total of 681 539 diseases, which is 12.8% more than in the previous year.

Morbidity rate is increased to 20241.2% oo in 2014 compared to 17950.0% oo from 2013

The structure of individual groups of diseases, the respiratory are again ranking on the first place with a share of 44% in total and morbidity rate of 8927.4% oo.

On the second place are diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue with 5.9% share and the rate of 1194.4% oo; on the third place are diseases of the digestive system with a share of 4.3% and a rate of 875.3% oo; on the fourth diseases of the eye and adnexa with a share of 3.8% and a rate of 770.8% oo; fifth- certain infectious and parasitic diseases with the participation of 3.7% and a rate of 751.2% and OO. t. n.

Compared to the last year, there has been an increasing trend in the infectious and parasitic diseases by 5.9%; congenital malformations by 3.4%;  diseases of the respiratory system by 13.7%; endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases 5.3%; with mental disorders and behavioral disorders by 3.5%;  diseases of the ear of 26.2%;  diseases of the circulatory system – 6.2%;  diseases of the nervous system 8%;  diseases of the musculoskeletal system 12,2%;  diseases of the eye and adnexa 0.9%; diseases of the genito-urinary system to 13%; in diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue 6.9%.

These diseases, comparing to 2013 are with decreasing trend: the injury and poisoning by 25.1%;  diseases of the digestive system of 0.6%;etc.

 Mortality in the health care for school children and youth

In 2014, are registered a total of 128 deaths, on the age of 5-24 years and a rate of 24.6% oo.

The distribution by age shows that young people from 15-24 years are most common in the mortality of the population, with participation of 75%, and rate of 33.2% oo.

The distribution by sex shows that males are over-represented compared to women.

Recommendations:

- raising the awareness of young people through programs for health education at all levels in order to indicate of the importance of their own health and well-being;

– Active participation in the implementation of health programs in order to apply the knowledge acquired to health education about healthy lifestyles;

- raising the awareness of young people about the risks that exist in their health in order to reduce risky behavior.
