Following the environmental health assessment by the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Macedonia, it  has been requested donation of tablets for disinfecting (purifying) drinking water from individual water supply facilities for residents of 15 flooded cities around the country (Prilep, Bitola, Resen, Ohrid, Kicevo Demir Hisar, Veles, Negotino, Kavadarci, Kumanovo, Sveti Nikole, Stip, Radovis, Strumica and Kocani).

Tablets for water disinfection – OASIS (300.000) began to be distributed on the  March  6th by the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Macedonia through 10 Centres for Public Health.

Assistance is provided after consultation with the Ministry of Health in relation to the needs of vulnerable citizens to safe drinking water through a special fund within the budget of UNICEF.

The aid is intended for the target population of citizens who were affected by the floods, or people whose homes and individual water supply facilities were flooded according to the Center for Crisis Management and the Centers for Public Health by the competent regions. Disinfection of drinking water will be carried out by specialists of care from the Centers for Public Health in accordance with the Guidelines prepared by the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Macedonia.

Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the situation in the flooded regions and if necessary will adequately respond for further.
