December 1 – World AIDS Day

HIV remains a major global public health problem, with approximately 44.1 million deaths recorded to date. Transmission of the virus has been reported in all countries worldwide.

It is estimated that by the end of 2024, 40.8 million people were living with HIV.

The theme of this year’s observance is “Overcoming Inequalities, Transforming the Response to AIDS,” calling for continued political leadership, international cooperation, and human rights–based approaches to end AIDS by 2030.
